Do you remember when you were a kid and you would say to your friends, "I promise or hope to die and stick a thousand needles in each eye", as sort of an oath to prove how sincere you were in making a promise?  Well, thank God, we didn't have to fulfill that oath or we would all be blind.

Now, in the Word of God there are over 30,000 promises, but God backs up his promises by his own Word.  In Hebrews, chapter six, verse thirteen through verse 19a, (KJV) we see: "For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could sware by no greater, he sware by himself, saying, 'surely in blessing I will bless thee and multiplying I will muliply thee.' And so, after he (Abraham) had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.  For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation, is to them and end of all strife. (or doubt as to whether something is true or not) Wherein God, willing more abundantly to show unto the heirs of promise (that's we Christians), the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: that by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:  which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast...".

So what does that mean to us today?  Just this!  We need to find the promise of God that applies to our situation and, like Abraham, believe that "What God had promised, he was also able to perform" (Rom. 4:21)  We need to keep that promise before our eyes and read it aloud and confess it daily, until the promise is fulfilled.  If we do not receive the promise, we are missing something, not God.  We should then ask ourselves, "Where did I miss it?".

Here is a promise of God from III John 2 "Beloved, I wish (or pray) above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as your soul  (or mind, will, & emotions) prospers.  The implication or promise here is that if your soul is healthy so will be your body and finances.

"For the promises of God are in him, yea and in him, Amen, unto the glory of God by us". (2 Cor. 1:20)
